Spontaneous thoughts from the Ganesha picture: I am reminded of an interesting quote from a sculptor. He said that an ordinary man sees only the stone whereas a sculptor sees the sculpture hidden in it, waiting to be released. It is a question of how you look at things. The sculptor gets rid of the unnecessary portions, to create the shape he wants. His mind concentrates on the shape he has visualised. Not on what is wrong with the stone.
Possible ideas for retaining talent:
- What if we train senior managers look for the strengths of their people
- What if we have a vision for all talented employees and share it with them, and co-create their future
- What if every manager looks upon himself as a sculptor who shapes people's career and not as a boss who merely slave drives people
- What if we introduce mentorship as a Key Result Area (KRA) for senior managers.
- What if we measure the success of senior managers by the number of people they have grown (as opposed to delivering mere financial numbers)
