TBEM-WRF Hosts an Unusual Workshop:

On June 14, 2008 The TBEM-WRF hosted an unusual workshop at The Leela. The workshop – Voices Within Business Creativity Workshop – is conceived, created and conducted by two leading Carnatic Music Artistes – Bombay Jayashri and T M Krishna of Chennai – and well known advertising professional and Innovation Coach R. Sridhar of Mumbai.

The workshop is inspired by a Coffee Table Book on Carnatic Music authored by Bombay Jayashri, T M Krishna & Mythili Chandrasekhar.
The workshop has an unusual format. The first half involves a live concert plus lecture demonstration strewn with business examples. The second half is a hands-on exercise working on a live business case using the principles explained in the morning. Every participant got a complete tool kit with the Coffee Table book, a workbook, a game, a pair of dice and an 8-hole flute.
The interactive workshop included a business quiz as well.
Mr. Homi Khusrokhan Chairman of TBEM-WRF welcomed the participants. The Chief Guest, Mr. R Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director, Tata Sons, delivered an address on “Why managers must borrow from the arts.” Both of them surprised every one by turning up in traditional south Indian attire for the workshop. The workshop was attended by 60 managers from various Tata Group companies including Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Steel, TCS, Rallis, and Infiniti Retail etc.
Participants enjoyed the workshop as climate was congenial and non-threatening. There was spontaneous singing, poem recitation etc. “Serious work need not be boring” was amply demonstrated. Participants appreciated the fact that the workshop started on time and closed on time and was quite well-paced.
The feedback for the workshop has been overwhelming. Three of the participating companies have agreed to do a pilot project under Mr. Sridhar’s guidance to apply the Voices Within Principles to a current issue to test the effectiveness of the concept. The learning will be shared thereafter.
